I’m Taylor Ingham, founder of Utterly Home. My design journey started in our first place, a cozy 1950s home with charming details and plenty of room to grow. It didn’t feel like “us” yet, and figuring out how to make it feel warm, functional, and personal sparked a real love for home styling that’s stayed with me ever since.
My style falls somewhere between Scandinavian simplicity and French country comfort. I like natural textures, furniture with history, and rooms that evolve over time instead of being “done.” I tend to build palettes around soft, natural colors, woods, whites, and muted blues. My favorite is periwinkle, that quiet shade between blue and lavender. It has just enough personality to stand out without overwhelming a space, and I love the way it changes with the light.
If I were a piece of furniture, I’d be a kitchen table, because I like being where people gather. It’s the place where meals, homework, and long talks all happen, the center of most homes, and the kind of space that holds everything together.
One day, I’d love to have a large cut-flower garden and sell bouquets at a weekend market. Gardening feels like an extension of design — hands-on, seasonal, and built on observation. I like that it rewards patience but also welcomes experimentation.
I live in a city just outside of Toronto with my husband and our two kids, Carson (5) and Sienna (3). Having young children has changed how I think about design. Our spaces need to work hard, be easy to clean, comfortable, and flexible as life shifts. The goal isn’t perfection; it’s livability.
Utterly Home started as a way to document small projects and ideas, but it’s become a place to explore how people create homes that feel personal and functional. The site focuses on practical design choices, family-friendly ideas, and interiors that tell quiet stories over time.
When I’m not writing or sourcing design inspiration for the site, I’m usually moving furniture, trimming plants, or restarting another project I haven’t finished yet. It’s a habit I’m working on, though I suspect most creative people know exactly how that happens.
What You’ll Get Here
I write for people who live in real homes the kind with half-finished projects, fingerprints on the fridge, and a running list of things to fix “when there’s time.”
Here, you’ll find:
- Design advice that fits real budgets, not just magazine ones.
- Step-by-step how-tos for those “can I do this myself?” jobs that always seem to snowball.
- Personal takes on tools, trends, and the small decisions that actually make a difference.
This isn’t a glossy design site. There’s no studio lighting, no assistants, and no marble countertops hiding just out of frame. It’s just me sharing my ideas while building a home in between sanding filler and waiting for paint to dry.
Let’s Make Your Space Feel Utterly Yours
I believe every home has potential, even the one with the odd boiler cupboard in the hallway. Making it feel good doesn’t have to mean blowing the budget or following trends. It’s more about paying attention, being thoughtful, a little creative, and sometimes willing to roll up your sleeves.
Whether you’re starting from scratch, reworking a single room, or just looking for a few easy wins, I’m glad you found your way here.
Welcome to Utterly Home.
